Scientific Animation – Photobiomodulation Therapy for AMD
This scientific animation explains photobiomodulation therapy for AMD using the Valeda Light Delivery System medical device. Broad acceptance by retinal specialists of photobiomodulation, or PMB, therapy for age-related macular degeneration, or AMD, is hampered by skepticism. The prospect that light can stimulate a cellular response with significant therapeutic benefits seems too good to be true and patients may miss out on a potentially life-altering therapy. This scientific animation follows PBM light from the Valeda medical device as it enters the eye, illuminating the viewer’s journey through structures and cells. Within photoreceptors of the retina, PBM light activates the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase, or CcO pathway, directly stimulating the production of mitochondrial energy in dysfunctional retinal cells. Includes: mitochondria, cytoplasm, cytosol, retinal cells, ophthalmology, optometry, light therapy.
