Scientific Animation: Nanoparticles in Cancer | AXS Studio

Created for Integrated Nanotechnology and Biomedical Sciences Laboratory
The project

Nanoparticles (NPs) are an effective way to deliver therapeutic and diagnostic agents to tumors. A full understanding of NP dynamics within the body is key to optimize NP design for clinical use. We created this dynamic 3D scientific animation to take viewers on the incredible journey of NPs, focusing on the active transport and retention principle that governs delivery to solid tumors. Scientific accuracy was of key importance. We consulted our client’s extensive research data, including still and time-lapse micrographs, to accurately visualize the cellular and acellular mechanisms that govern NP tumor entry, retention, and exit. This animation won the 2025 Award of Excellence in didactic/instructional – non-commercial animation from the Association of Medical Illustrators.
