The project

Outlook Surgical is revolutionizing endoscopic otolaryngology procedures with the Innova 1 System. AXS Studio partnered with Visum Media on medical device animations demonstrating the advantages of Innova 1 in a series of procedures. A detailed understanding of the sinuses was critical to our medical animators depicting the procedures accurately for an audience of surgeons and investors.

Demonstration of the Inova 1 Endoscopy System flexible scope mounted on the curved biopsy forceps. A surgeon's hand positions the forceps over the back of the tongue, on the side to take a biopsy from a suspected tumor. The surgeon's other hand grasps the patient's tongue. The inset shows the scope view of the forceps closing on the lesion.

Medical, nursing and allied health students have l Medical, nursing and allied health students have long relied on the work of medical illustrators to learn the complexities of human anatomy and physiology. With the advent of 3D computer animation, a new learning tool arrived: 3D medical animation. Want to know more? Read our latest blog post (12-minute read): https://axs3d.com/blog/benefits-using-3d-medical-animation-videos-medical-education/

We’re excited to share that “Nanoparticle Deli We’re excited to share that “Nanoparticle Delivery to a Solid Tumour” took home an Award of Excellence from the Association of Medical Illustrators (@amidotorg).

This 3D scientific animation was a collaboration between @axs_studio and the Integrated Nanotechnology and Biomedical Sciences (INBS) Laboratory, created to explain nanoparticle (NP) transport within a cancerous tumour microenvironment.

NPs have the potential to deliver therapeutic and diagnostic agents to tumours but a full understanding of their dynamics within the human body is essential to making the science a clinical reality for patients. That’s where INBS comes in.

INBS is a pioneer and global leader in nanotechnology, under the leadership of Prof. Warren Chan. Their active transport and retention (ATR) principle in Nature Nanotechnology (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41565-025-01877-5), challenged widely held beliefs about nanoparticle delivery to tumours.

AXS Studio collaborated with INBS scientists Matthew Nguyen and Jamie Wu on a concise scientific animation to explain this principle visually. Because scientific accuracy was essential, our medical animators consulted INBS’ extensive body of research data, including still and time-lapse micrographs, to accurately visualize the mechanisms governing NP tumor entry, retention, and exit. We also surveyed peer-reviewed sources on gross- and micro-anatomy to ensure accurate depiction of the tissue environments. The [finished video] is a captivating visualization of this groundbreaking INBS research.

The Association of Medical Illustrators is recognized as the premier global resource for promoting the power of visual media to advance scientific understanding, communication, education, and research.
