In this still from a scene that depicts gastric bypass surgery, the distal end of the jejunum was brought up proximal to the new stomach pouch. The da Vinci SureForm 60 stapler instrument can be seen penetrating through small enterotomies in the gastric pouch and jejunum, in order to connect the two together.

Note that the larger part of the stomach is still visible in the back but is greyed out, indicating that it remains in the body but no longer holds food.

The project

Advances in minimally invasive robotic surgery have transformed many surgical procedures, making them faster, less expensive, and shortening patient wait times. AXS Studio created a series of clear, concise animations to educate patients on robotic-assisted bariatric surgeries and hernia repair procedures. We collaborated with our client to develop a signature look for the anatomy that is accurate for a surgical audience, with just the right amount of detail for patients. This video compilation includes clips of the gastric bypass procedure, and inguinal hernia and ventral hernia repairs. Not shown: sleeve gastrectomy; single anastomosis duodenal switch (SADI-S); and biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (BPD-DS) procedures.
